stairs, contemplating his next move. Daisy turned and went in the room to check on Alexandra while Rose and Lilly kept their eyes on Tristan. He didn’t move.

Daisy strode into the room nonchalantly. Alexandra was lifting her dress when Daisy walked in. Daisy went straight for the desk in the corner. She was looking for something but wasn’t sure exactly what. When she spotted the letter opener, she knew it was perfect. She snatched it in her hand and turned to leave the room without saying a word to Alexandra.

“Make him regret his decision,” Alexandra ordered.

Daisy nodded and turned her back to Alexandra. With the sharp end of the letter opener she ran it across her palm until blood began to seep out. She closed her hand and held the blood there. She quickly rushed back to where Tristan stood by the top of the stairs still.

“Coward. Go run back to your fiancé. She was such a bore to us anyway. You both belong together.” And with that, Daisy gave his back a shove. It wasn’t a hard push. It didn’t even move Tristan. With that shove, though, she slipped the letter opener into one of the pockets of the silk robe without Tristan even noticing.

They all heard heels and murmurs coming up the stairs. They looked down and realized Tristan’s fiancé was making her way up. He didn’t have to go to her after all. “Tristan?” she asked. “Are you up there?”

“Yes, my love. Gloria, I am up here,” he called down. He wanted her to see the three witches and their leader at their worst. He wanted his fiancé to see the beasts they were.

When Gloria made her way to the top of the steps her brows creased. She was confused as to what was going on. “Honey why are you up here, alone, with these ladies?” she asked as she looked down at his appearance. She whispered, “Where are your clothes and why are you naked?” She looked towards the sad faces of Rose, Lilly and Daisy. “Can someone please explain to me what happened?”

“These women took my clothes and forced me to have sex with their ‘leader.’” He pointed an accusing finger at Rose, Lilly and Daisy.

“What?” Gloria took a step back and placed her hand over her heart, feeling faint.

“He lies,” Lilly said so nonchalantly.

“I do not!” Tristan yelled which echoed throughout the hallway. His anger was starting to get the best of him. He thought his rage was contained when he met Gloria, but it was slowly coming back out.

“He raped our friend!” Daisy cried as she ran back into the room and pulled out Alexandra whose eyes were all puffy and red. Her makeup had smudged and her clothes were dishevelled. It looked like the fabric was pulled at in some places.

“That is absurd! I never raped anyone. I kissed her, yes, but did not rape. She was the one who was trying to rape me!”

Alexandra let out a cry of pain and the tears flowed.

Tristan felt defeated. He grabbed Gloria by the shoulders, making her look him in the eye. “She’s lying, Gloria! Do not listen to her or any of them!”

Gloria looked towards the crying Alexandra and then back at Tristan. She felt sympathy for Alexandra. She was such a beautiful woman. Why would she lie? But also, Tristan would never lie to her either. There was too much going on in her mind. She didn’t know who to believe.

“I cannot look any longer,” Alexandra said as she turned and sobbed into Daisy’s shoulder.

Gloria wanted to comfort the woman she didn’t know. She had a soft spot for crying, vulnerable women. Gloria walked past Tristan and stood beside Alexandra, patting her back. “Cannot look at what?” she asked.

Gloria turned back to look at Tristan who had his back to them. He couldn’t believe she would go over there and try to comfort the witch! The muscle in his cheek twitched. Gloria gasped. She covered her mouth with shaking hands and started shaking her head back and forth. “No, no!” she said as tears flowed down her cheeks.

Alexandra stopped crying and looked to Gloria. “He made me lay on that robe as he raped me. I am a virgin no longer,” she said and started crying again. Of course none of Alexandra’s tears were real. It was all an act.

“What are you talking about?” Tristan was confused. He turned his head to look at the back of his robe. He turned the fabric as much as he could to see what they were all staring at.

Blood. There was blood on the back his robe.

“That’s not her blood! This is a set up!” Tristan cried.

Gloria didn’t want to hear anymore. She tore off her ring and threw it at Tristan. “You monster! You will never be my husband.” With tears flowing freely she rushed past Tristan, down the stairs and out the front door, never once looking back.

“Wait! Come back!” But Tristan didn’t even try to go after her. He knew he lost her. She was gone forever. She would never recover from this.

He turned to the ladies with ice in his veins. “You caused this. You made me lose my wife. She will never believe me. My life is ruined.” Tristan could not picture his life without his fiancé. She saved him from the brink of suicide. His parents both died and he had nothing to live for. All his assets and money were gone and he was homeless. Gloria brought him back from the brink of death and supported him back to health. He owed her his life. Remembering all the painful memories, Tristan’s body swayed back and forth. There was something in his pocket. The letter opener. He pulled it out and fingered the sharp edges between his fingers. His eyes were locked with the smooth sides of it that had the remainder of Gloria’s blood on it. He wondered how many letters it had opened. He could not live without his fiancé and he knew his life was ruined sine apparently now he had the title of a rapist. He would never be hired anywhere and everyone will shun him, knowing what he did, even though it was all lies. How easy as lie was made. He knew what he had to do. His mind was made the moment his fiancé left the house.

He walked up to the smiling Alexandra and stood right in her face. “I hope you are happy,” he said as he plunged the letter opener deep into his chest, right through his heart.

He fell to his knees and collapsed in front of the girls.

“Very,” Alexandra responded to his lifeless body.

The commotion caused people to venture upstairs where the minions replayed the story of what happened. Everyone pitied Alexandra and helped support her. No one even gave a second glance to Tristan.

The next day, life was as it was the day before. Nothing was amiss. It was like nothing ever happened.

There are trustworthy men out there but burning the wrong bridges will not only get you in trouble, it will kill you. Being cautious with your actions is always the first move. If not, you will be easily taken advantage of.
